Borehamwood is a town in southern Hertfordshire, it has a population of over 30,000 and is home to Elstree Studios famous for film and TV productions. The film studio began producing films in the 1920s and has been prolific in making blockbusters such as Indiana Jones, Star Wars, 2001 A Space Odyssey and many others. There are several parks in and around Borehamwood including Meadow Park, Aberford Park and the nearby Aldenham Country Park. Borehamwood is adjacent to the A1 which after a few miles becomes the A1M motorway. It is approximately 5 miles from the M25 and M1 motorways. The Elstree and Borehamwood train station is on the Thameslink route between Bedford and Brighton it is also on the East midlands route between London St Pancras and Sheffield. Borehamwood has a small theatre called the Ark Theatre, located behind Borehamwood Civic Centre, it provides a venue for local performers and for general entertainment. The Venue, adjacent to the Civic Centre, has a swimming pool, gym and a soft play area for smaller children.
